A huge congratulations to Warrant Officer Stacy Porter RAFAC on her promotion as a result of years of dedicated service to the Squadron and the wider Corps. The camps, sports, drill, shooting activities and myriad other fantastic opportunities she has been instrumental in delivering as a Flight Sergeant have helped shape many young lives. Well done!

Rememberance Parade 2019

Today cadets and staff gathered for a service of remembrance at Durham Cathedral. Following the moving service, military contingents from across County Durham marched through the city where AOC 22 Gp RAF, Air Vice Marshall James (pictured) took the salute with the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham, Mrs Sue Snowdon.

Cadets brave cold for Poppy Appeal 2019

Along with cadets from across the region, 234 have proudly continued their support for the Royal British Legion.

We’ve been out selling poppies in Durham City Centre these last two weekends despite the chilly temperatures!

Durham Cadet selected to become Qualified Aerospace Instructor!

Cpl Steer has started the Air Cadets Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course (QAIC), this coveted course will allow Cpl Steer to teach various aerospace subjects to cadets across the wing. The course involves learning how to deliver lessons using Air Traffic Control and practical flight simulators as well as in aerodynamics, aviation studies and air power.

At the end of 7 training weekends and a challenging assessment week Cpl Steer will be awarded the rarely seen blue lanyard to wear on his uniform.

Durham cadets become Mayor’s Cadets!

Flight Sergeants Ridd and Thorns have recently been inaugurated as the Mayor’s Cadets for the City of Durham. In this role they will help escort the Mayor during various civic functions throughout the coming year.

AFI success for Durham Air Cadets!

The squadron recently completed its Annual Formal Inspection, the squadron achieved a Silver standard, with only a few of these standards being awarded to squadrons within the wing each year.

“The Annual Formal Inspection is an opportunity for the Squadron to shine. The staff and cadets performed a fantastic parade, proudly representing their Squadron. Their smart turn out and enthusiasm really impressed the Inspecting Officer. Well done to all involved.” – Flt Lt M Scott

DofE in Full Swing

Our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award teams are off on their expedition along Hadrian’s Wall. They’ll get to experience being totally self-sufficient while putting their navigation training in to practice.

Volleyball Success for Durham Cadets

Yesterday 10 cadets took part in the annual Inter-Sqn volleyball competition, the team came third place out of 15 squadrons bagging them bronze medals!

In the 4 years the competition has been running the squadron has won medals three times! Well Done Team!
